Woke up this morning to some surprise wedding news “Xbox Buys Bethesda.” So it looks like there is about to be a really big wedding with Microsoft (Xbox) picking up ZeniMax (Parent company of Bethesda) and now Bethesda is joining the Xbox family. The huge dowry is to the tune of $7.5 Billion in cash, all joking aside that’s a whole lotta money.
Just in case you’re not aware or as I said in my video “Been under a rock,” Bethesda is responsible for some big games such as:
- The Elder Scrolls
- The Evil Within
And are currently working on a new Elder Scrolls game and other projects like Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo.
Does this mean that all Bethesda games are going to be on the Xbox Gamepass?
Well here are some details from the PR of Microsoft:
- Microsoft is paying $7.5 Billion in cash for Zenimax Media/Bethesda.
- Gamepass has reached 15 million subscribers and is growing.
- Microsoft has now 23 studios.
- Bethesda’s future games will be on Gamepass on Launch Day.
But what about the exclusivity to PS5 titles that Bethesda studios have made, will they be honored by the new deal? Well according to Xbox Big Wig Phil Spencer (Who ain’t playing around with this big buy) said, “Xbox plans to honor PS5 exclusivity commitment for Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo. Future games will be on Xbox, PC, and “other consoles on a case by case basis.”
What do you think? Are you excited about this or are you thinking this will be DOOM for the games such as Doom and the other titles?
